Managing Your Pond for Recreation

Ponds can provide you with endless hours of recreation, and they can increase the value of your property. There are many goals for an impoundment, such as sport fishing, waterfowl, livestock water, swimming, fire suppression supply and irrigation supply. This event will focus on managing sport fish in small impoundments. You will learn how to develop a quality sport fishing impoundment from the ground up, from site selection to managing existing fish and everything in between. Come learn fish management fundamentals that will aid you in developing and managing an enjoyable fishery.

It is an exclusive tour led by Monet scholars from institutions such as Musée Marmottan Monet and the Orsay Museum, and concludes at Monet's house and gardens in Giverny.

Girls on the Run 5K & Glow RUn

The GOTR 5K and Glow Run (and 1 mile) will be on Friday, May 31st. The 5k will begin at 8:45 pm and the 1 Mile will begin at 8:50 pm The run will begin on the road directly north of the field house at Noble Stadium and will end amid cheers and celebration on the track at the 50 yard line.

How Plants and Animals Respond to Grazing

Grazing is a management tool that uses livestock and their act of consuming plant material to impact an ecosystem or landscape. Grazing affects both the plant and the animal. Plant type and availability, stage of growth, animal preferences, livestock age and physiological condition, stock density, duration of grazing and recovery, and management all play roles in the responses of both plants and animals to grazing. At this workshop, you will learn about these interactions, terminology and concepts, and plant and animal responses to grazing. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit grazing paddocks at the Noble Research Institute and discuss the effects of grazing and applied grazing management with consultants in the field.

Managing Brush with Proper Techniques

Woody plant encroachment can reduce grazeable acres as well as potentially displace good plants for wildlife habitat. However, not all woody plants are bad for livestock and wildlife. During this field day, you will learn the potential positives and negatives of woody plants depending on differing goals. You will also hear discussion on how to manage woody plant encroachment using several different techniques such as fire, mechanical and chemical control options. This field day will demonstrate how to apply certain control techniques as well as show past treatments. Join us to learn how to manage brush for your operation.

Managing Forage Quality to Performance

One of the best ways to reduce your feed costs and increase revenue in your livestock operation is to optimize the utilization of forage in your pasture. This event is designed to help you learn how to manage the relationship between native forage and livestock, enabling you to improve the health and productivity of your native pasture while benefiting your cow-calf operation. At this workshop, you will learn firsthand how to estimate native forage quality and quantity and how to use this to best meet your herd’s nutritional needs. We will also explain and demonstrate the benefits of tools, such as grazing exclosures, prescribed fire and forage testing.
