Ardmore: A Road Trip for the Whole Family

Posted by Ardmore Tourism Authority on 04/25/2018

The great family road trip is an American tradition, but crafting a balanced itinerary that excites the entire family can be tricky. Luckily, Ardmore boasts an abundance of activities to enthrall parents and children alike.

Ardmore Regional Park’s sprawling, well-manicured greenery contains enough sunny activities to occupy an entire week for the whole family, from fishing at City Lake—right next to the children’s fishing pond—to a dog park, skate park, softball and soccer fields, and hiking trails.

The Charles B. Goddard Center for the Visual and Performing Arts houses permanent and traveling art exhibits, and offers theatre performances, art classes, and family activities.

Coming soon, the wildly popular Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park will open a location in Ardmore just east of Interstate 35, with massive indoor trampolines, skydiving, dodgeball, foam pits, and play areas tailored to children under 7.

Just around the corner from Ardmore is the idyllic family day-retreat of Turner Falls, Oklahoma’s largest waterfall. Swim, hike, or explore the wonders of the mysterious abandoned Collings Castle.

Beautiful Lake Murray State Park is an ideal escape from the trappings of your hotel, perfect for a relaxing family daytrip. With 12,500 acres, it’s Oklahoma’s largest state park, and features a variety of activities, from fishing and water sports to miniature golf and hiking.

While you’re at Lake Murray, check out Tucker Tower at the Lake Murray Nature Center, a beautiful, storied structure originally built by the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s. Be sure to take in the breathtaking view from the patio atop the tower.

An adrenaline rush for the whole family: Careen through the canopied forest and experience the thrills and chills of ziplining. Ardmore is near two different zipline services—Turner Falls Zipline and Air Donkey Zipline Adventures—that offer both hanging and sit-down experiences.

The Family Entertainment Center at Regional Park, which will be completed this year, will be every kid’s dream. The 9,000-square-foot build will feature a massive arcade, food, event/party room, mini-golf, go-karts and water wars. Be warned: Your children will not want to leave.
